Herman C. Rakes

Herman C. Rakes, 99, of Shawsville, passed away on Wednesday, October 25, 2017. Herman and his wife were owners of Rakes Building Supply for over 50 years.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 77 years, Merle Sowers Rakes; parents, Daniel J. and Minnie Woods Rakes; four brothers; three sisters; one son; and one great-grandson. He is survived by his sons and spouses, Don Rakes (Ida), Bill Rakes (Janice), Bruce Rakes (Sally), Ron Rakes (Kitty); daughter-in-law, Edean Rakes; 12 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.

The family will receive friends on Saturday, October 28, 2017, from 9:30 to 11 a.m. at Horne Funeral Home. The Funeral will be at 11 a.m. in the Chapel, with Pastor T. Michael Bond and Pastor Ed Watkins officiating. Interment will follow in Sunset Cemetery.
