NEWMAN, HOWARD CARLYLE, age 79, of Christiansburg, passed away Wednesday, April 6, 2005.
Born April 28, 1925, he was a Veteran of the U. S. Army having served during World War II, a longtime member of the Christiansburg Presbyterian Church where he served as usher, deacon and a faithful occupant of the church balcony. He was a local businessman in Blacksburg and Christiansburg; a member of the ?Hiking Club?; a licensed Ham Radio Operator, an avid trout fisherman and in later years a pond fisherman.
He was preceded in death by his parents, James Oscar and Mary Ellen Smith Newman; his wife, Betty J. Newman; three brothers, Hugh Newman, Harry Newman and Harold Newman. Survivors include his son and daughter-in-law, Paul & Nancy Newman of Christiansburg; their children, Christopher and Zac; daughter and son-in-law, Karen N. & Jim Fridy of Lewisville, NC; their children, John and William; sisters, Edna Harris of Lexington; Hazel Newman of Salem; June Paxton of Roanoke; sister-in-law, Katherine Newman of Lynchburg and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. Friday evening at the Horne Funeral Home. Funeral services will be conducted at 10:00 a.m. Saturday at the Christiansburg Presbyterian Church with Dr. Don Makin officiating. Interment will follow in Roselawn Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Christiansburg Presbyterian Church, 107 West Main Street; Christiansburg, VA 24073, Christiansburg Rescue Squad, P. O.
