Howard Thurman Whitaker Sr.

Howard T. Whitaker Sr., born May 10, 1926, departed his earthly home on January 14, 2015 to enter the gates of Heaven. He was preceded in death by his wife of 69 years, Thelma Whitaker; his parents, Terry L. and Lena Agee Whitaker; brother, Roy Whitaker; and two sisters, Ruby Cherry and Helen Guthrie. He served in the Army during World War II in the European Theatre of Operations.

He is survived by his children, Jerry and wife Judy, Howard Jr. (Red) and wife, Kathy, Beatrice Faye, Michael, Woodrow, Randy and wife, Carrie, John Terry; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; niece, Joanne Piper; special sister-in-law, Gloria D. Graves; and a special pet, ‘Baby’.

The family will receive friends on Friday, January 16, 2015, from 6-8 p.m. at Horne Funeral Home. The Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, January 17, 2015, at 11 a.m. in the Horne Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. Roy Turpin officiating. Interment will follow in Big Sands Cemetery, Floyd County, VA.
