Irene Yost, known to many as Myrtle or Granny, of Blacksburg, took her final and most important bus trip of her life on March 26, 2014, at the age of 99. She was born on June 27, 1914.
She was met at the gates of heaven by her husband, Curtis Yost; son-in-law, Sherman Cox; and all that have gone before her. She leaves behind daughters and son-in-law, Doris Jean and Carl Martin of Blacksburg, and Mildred Cox of Christiansburg; grandchildren and their spouses, Dale and Lilly Martin, Linda and Ed Winters, Sharon Cox, and Lois Gwinn; great-grandchildren and spouses, Amanda and Robert Lewis, Alisha and Travis Lester, Darren and Emily Wood, Jesse Gwinn, Stacy and Jason Merriman; great-great-grandchildren, Emily, Zachary, Mallory, Mckenna, Curtis, Parker, Jacoby, and Rylan; as well as sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Shirley and Wallace Gillam.
The family would like to thank the faculty and staff of Heritage Hall for taking such good and loving care of Granny in her last years of this journey.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, March 29, 2014, from 12-2 p.m. at Horne Funeral Home. The funeral service will follow at 2 p.m. in the Chapel, with Rev. Jube Burk officiating. Interment will follow in Sunset Cemetery, Christiansburg.
