Jack Henry Atkinson Sr.

Jack Atkinson Sr. born May 11, 1934 in Shawsville, Va. joined his loved ones in Heaven on Wednesday December 13, 2017. Jack was a devoted husband, loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother and friend. He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert Everett and Lucy Atkinson; brother, Garland; granddaughter, Amanda; and grandson, Jacob. Jack leaves behind to cherish his memory his wife Betty; children, Jack (wife Gail), Tim (wife Penny); grandchildren, Kristin and Josh (wife Kelly); great-grandchildren, Bailey Atkinson, Connor Johnson, Andrea and Kailey Henderson, Tyler, Isaiah and Jonah Atkinson. He also leaves behind his precious dog Stanley whom he dearly loved. Also left to cherish his memory are his brothers and sisters, Howard (wife Linda), Richard (wife Kay), Mack, Allen (wife Corrine), Vivian Semones (husband Dale), Phyllis Epperly (husband James), Connie Hall and Debbie Belcher (husband Robert) as well as many nieces and nephews. Jack served proudly in the Army during the Korean and Vietnam Era. He loved to work with his hands to build and repair furniture. He always had a love for old cars especially the ’66 Mustang. His love for the outdoors including hunting and fishing which he shared this love with his sons and grandsons teaching and showing them how which is a memory they will always have. He was a member of Sowder’s Chapel Baptist Church for many years. A special thank you to Medi Hospice and the special nurses that took such good care of him. The family will receive friends Sunday December 17, 2017 from 1-4:00 pm at Horne Funeral Home. The Funeral Service will take place Monday December 18, 2017 at 1:00pm at the Horne Funeral Home Chapel with Pastors Lanny Belcher, Kermit Slate and Robbie Vance officiating. Interment will follow with full military honors at the Southwest Va. Veterans Cemetery, Dublin Va. The family is in the care of Horne Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers donations are welcome to the funeral home.
