Jack Claude Sparks, 83, of Pembroke, VA, passed away on Wednesday, September 2, 2009. He was born in Erwin, Tenn. on April 30, 1926 to the late Claude Rex and Virginia Belle Hensley Sparks. He was also preceded in death by two brothers. Mr. Sparks was a retired cattle farmer and retired from C & P Telephone Co. after 37 years of service. He attended Virginia Tech where he played football and served his country in the United States Navy. He was a life long Mason and a member of VFW Post # 500 in Narrows. He was an avid woodworker. He is survived by his children: Constance Marie Love and husband Johnny of Blacksburg, VA, Donald S. Sparks and wife Pamela of Bedford, VA, and Deborah Anne Sparks of Christiansburg, VA; 5 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; brother, Ivory H. Sparks and wife Mary of Ashville, NC and sister, Jean Sparks of Wise, Idaho; special friend Lois Turner, and his faithful companion “Dee Dee”. A funeral service will be conducted on Saturday, September 5, 2009 at 11:00 am from the chapel of Horne Funeral Home with Pastor Jimmy Price officiating. Interment will follow in Roselawn Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends on Friday, September 4, 2009 from 5:00 until 8:00 pm at Horne Funeral Home.
