James Ernest Board, 88, of Tampa, Fla., formerly of Charlottesville, died Sunday, July 22, 2012.
He is preceded in death by his wife of 58 years, Kate H. Board. James was a Navy veteran of World War II, serving in the South Pacific aboard aircraft carrier Kwajalein CVE-98. He retired from Sperry Marine Systems, Charlottesville, in 1986. Jim was a pilot and served with the Virginia Civil Air Patrol for many years before retiring to Lutz, Fla. in 1988.
He is survived by his son, James Earl Board, of Charlottesville; his grandchildren, Lisa, of Richmond; James, of Charlottesville, and Sara Board Powell, of Richmond; his great-grandchildren, Alison Powell and Dominic Powell, of Richmond; twin brothers, Curtis Wayne Board, of Vashon, Wash. and Dewey Lane Board, of Christiansburg; and sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Marietta Hanks and Frank Hanks, of Christiansburg.
A graveside service will be held on Saturday, August 25, 2012, at 1 pm at Wilson Cemetery, Floyd, VA, with the Reverend Steve Board officiating. Memorials may be made to Havens Chapel United Methodist Chuch, 1522 Daniels Run Road N.E., Check, VA 24072.
