James W. (Jay) Booth, 90, of Christiansburg went to be with his Lord on January 18, 2013.
Jay was born in Bluefield, VA, on September 23, 1922, and grew up in Welch, WV, the eldest child of the late Clarence and Roxie Booth. He was a proud World War II veteran, serving with the U. S. Army in North Africa and Italy as a member of the 705th Engineer Petroleum Distribution Company. Jay retired from Appalachian Power Company where he worked in Welch, Pineville, and Princeton, WV, retiring at age 62. He was a member of Trinity Baptist Church, Christiansburg, VA.
Jay was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Ruby Lane, Wanda Blackburn, and Lorraine Lane of Bluefield/Princeton, WV area; and brothers, Earl, Kenny and Richard Booth of Cleveland, OH.
He leaves to mourn his loss his beloved wife of 66 years, Elsie Lane Booth of Christiansburg. He will be sadly missed by his two children of whom he was very proud, Delores (Dee) Lee & husband Dr. J.A.N. Lee of Dublin, VA and Jim Booth & wife Judy Booth of Davidson, NC. He is also survived by his granddaughters, Jamie Wampler of Pulaski, VA, Amy and Pam Booth of Stuarts Draft, VA; and grandson, J.C. Booth of Stuarts Draft, VA; and his wonderful great-grandchildren, Allie and Dannie Booth of Stuarts Draft, VA, Haley Henderson of Morehead, KY and Logan Wampler of Pulaski, VA. Survivors also include sister, Sherry Booth Morgan of WV; and brothers, Claude Booth of PA and Doug Booth of OH.
A visitation and celebration service will be held on Monday, January 21, 2013, beginning at 10 a.m. at Horne Funeral Home, with the funeral service to commence at 11 a.m. in the Chapel. Rev. John Altizer and Rev. Monroe Hedrick will officiate. A memorial service will also be held at Roselawn Memorial Garden, Princeton, WV, with interment to follow there.
