James Jones

James (Jim) W. Jones, Jr., 78, of Riner, died Wednesday, November 20, 2013. He was born in Hampton, Virginia, to the late James W. Jones Sr. (who died in the battle of The Bulge in WW II); and to the late Gladys Snelling Jones of Hampton. He was also preceded in death by a granddaughter, Brittany Jones. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Glenna Grim Jones; sons, Weldon Jones of Riner, Kent and his wife, Cindy, of Concord, NC, Eric and his wife, Martha, of Riner; and grandchildren, Lindsey, Daniel, Miriam, and Benjamin Jones.

Jim was a graduate of Hampton High School, a 1959 graduate of Virginia Tech, and received his Masters Degree from Radford University. He worked as bookstore manager at Tech and at Radford University and retired from RU in 2001. Jim enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening and talking politics.

The family will receive friends on Friday, November 22, 2013, from 5-8 p.m. at Horne Funeral Home. The funeral service will be held on Saturday, November 23, 2013, at 11 a.m. in the Horne Funeral Home Chapel, with Pastor Will Fillingham officiating. Interment will follow in Sunset Cemetery, Christiansburg.
