LESTER, JAMES KENNETH, age 65, of Riner departed his earthly home after a long battle with Cancer on Thursday, October 28, 2004.
He was retired from the Lynchburg Foundry after 39 years of service and served in the United States Army in Fort Richardson, Alaska. He was preceded in death by his parents, John Davis and Cara Lee Duncan Lester, a sister, Betty Jean Bishop, a brother-in-law, Thomas G. Bishop and a son-in-law, Scotty Lee Dulaney.
He is survived by his loving wife of 22 years Peggy Salmons Lester; daughter and son-in-law, August Shadea and Thomas L. Hawley, Jr. of Christiansburg; a devoted and loving son and daughter-in-law, Ronald Edwin and Tammy Akers Salmons of Radford; brothers and sisters-in-law, John Davis & Betty Jo Lester of Belspring, Elmer Cecil and Marie Lester of Riner; sisters & brothers-in-law, Rosa Lee Bishop, Christiansburg, Goldie Mae and Roy Nester of Dublin, Judy Ann and James Thurman of Roanoke; brothers-in-law, Bobby Lee Bishop, Christiansburg, Rick Funk or Riner, Frank and Paula Funk of Lake City, Florida; six grandchildren, Chelsea Dulaney, Kenneth Trey and Dawson Hawley, Landre, Mason and Daylin Salmons and many beloved nieces and nephews. The family would like to extend a special thanks to Gentle Shepherd Hospice, Dr. Rotche and his staff, Dr. Bissell and his staff and the caring workers at Western Sizzlin of Christiansburg.
The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 Saturday at the Horne Funeral Service, Christiansburg. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 31, in the Horne Funeral Home Chapel conducted by Rev. Fred Jennings and Rev. Kathy Hale with interment to follow in Sunset Cemetery.
