James Oliver Sisson 74 of Shawsville, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, November 13th after a courageous battle with cancer. He was an adored husband, a beloved father, a loving grandfather, and a loyal friend.. James served during the Vietnam War in the years 1965-1967. He worked at various companies as a crane operator including IMF Crane & Rigging as well as Williams Crane & Rigging. He was an operator for 35 years and retired at the age of 65. His hobbies included fishing, gardening, hunting, and helping people in the community.
He was preceded in death by his father, Harold Sisson; mother, Bonnie Willis Sisson; brother, Don Sisson; and nephew, Daryl Sisson.
James is survived by his wife of 49 years, Julie Baucom Sisson; daughter, Melissa Shepherd and husband, Eric; son, Gregory James Sisson and wife, Denisse; granddaughter, Melanie Shepherd; nephew, Scott Sisson; niece, Cathy Fisher; along with other family members and close friends. The family would like to thank the doctors and nurses at the Veteran’s Hospital for all their care.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, November 16 from 5 to 7 p.m. at Horne Funeral Home. Funeral service will be on Sunday, November 17 at 2 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Steve Willis officiating. Interment will follow in Piedmont Cemtery.
