James Thompson

THOMPSON, James Leftridge, “Cotton” 70 of Christiansburg died Friday, June 3, 2011.

Mr. Thompson was a painting contractor for many years in the New River Valley, was employed by Burlington Industries for thirty years and retired from Virginia Tech Air Quality Control. He graduated from Auburn High School in 1959, served in the National Guard from 1962 – 1966, servings as a marksman.

He is survived by his wife; Donna Akers Thompson, his children and there spouses; James Thompson, Ann and Kenny Owens, Drema and Bruce Sarver and David and Joan Thompson, two step children; Regina Wallace and Samantha Akers. Also surviving are his sisters and brother-in-law; Richard and Mary Jane Bragg, Beulah Buckner, brother; Donnie Thompson. Mr. Thompson is also survived by twelve grandchildren, two great grandchildren and many other family members and special friends.

The family will receive friends at the Horne Funeral Home on Sunday, June 5, 2011 from 3 – 5 p.m. The funeral service will be held in the Horne Funeral Home Chapel on Monday, June 6, 2011 at 2 p.m. with Pastor Jerry Sloss officiating. Interment will follow in Sunset Cemetery.
