Wilson, James R., 90, of Christiansburg, VA, passed away on Thursday, December 23, 2010, with his family beside him.
He was born in Wilkes-Barre, PA on October 25, 1920. During World War II, he served as a radioman in the U.S. Navy on the USS LCS 124 in the invasion of Okinawa and the occupation of Japan. He was past commander of the VFW Post 1600 in Bellefonte, PA. He was employed by the Bell Telephone Company of Pennsylvania for 29 years.
He was preceded in death by his lovely wife of 50 years, Mary “Sis” Wilson and by his son James R. Wilson, Jr.
Surviving are his daughter, Barbara Wilson and her husband, Don Rimstidt, grandchildren, Donald Wilson and his fiancé, Karen Linkous and Krista Wilson, four great-grandchildren, Sarah, Mitchell, Jacob and Kennedy, all of Christiansburg, VA., and his special friend, Jean Walters, of Salem, VA.
Jim enjoyed bowling, shooting pool and watching golf on T.V. He had many friends who spoke of him as a kind and caring person. He also had a special place in his heart for animals especially dogs and cats. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
A memorial visitation will be held from 3p.m.-5p.m, Monday, December 27, 2010 at the Horne Funeral Home. Interment will be held in Pennsylvania at a later date. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Humane Society of Montgomery County, P.O. Box 287, Blacksburg, VA 24063.
