Janice Dickerson Doss, 83, of Christiansburg, Virginia, went to be with her Lord on October 1, 2020. She joined her husband, Maynard, who preceded her earlier this year.
Janice was born in the Alum Ridge community of Floyd County, Virginia, on March 13, 1937, to Hollice McKinley Dickerson and India Lester Dickerson. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother and a member of Christ Wesleyan Church for 60 years. Her favorite scripture was 1 Peter 5:7, “Cast all your anxiety on Him, because He cares for you,” and she shared it often in the cards she sent to family and friends.
Janice and Maynard were blessed to be residents together at the Kroontje Health Care Center in Blacksburg, VA, during their final months of life. Their family is grateful beyond words for the kindness and compassion shown to them by the staff of Kroontje. The family also expresses gratitude for the loving care provided by the nurses and staff of Good Samaritan Hospice.
In addition to her parents, Janice was preceded in death by brothers, Edward, A. D., and Earl Dickerson and two infant brothers; sisters, Shirley Jean Dickerson, Thelma Dickerson Haley and Bobbie Sue Dickerson Johnston; an infant daughter, and much loved dogs, Spike and Bailey. She is survived by her daughters, Susan (Bob) of Abingdon, VA; Sherrie Fowler of Lewisville, NC, and Stacie Cox (Chris) of Pulaski, VA; grandchildren Morgan Fowler Adams (Matt), Logan Fowler, Jesse Fowler, Dylan Cox, Grayson Cox; great-grandson Lincoln Adams; and sisters Judy Dickerson and Emma Reed, both of Christiansburg.
Interment will be at the Southwest Virginia Military Cemetery in Dublin, Virginia, in a private service. The family wishes to thank Pastor Gale Janovski and members of Christ Wesleyan Church for their friendship and loving care of Janice. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the church, 525 Harkrader St., Christiansburg, VA, 24073.
