Joan Lester Turman (Joanie), 60, of Christiansburg, passed away on Friday, September 6, 2013.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Mary Frances Lester; and her grandmother, Ora Higgs.
She is survived by her dad, Harold Lee Lester; sisters, Carolyn Akers and husband Don, and Kathy Thompson and husband Steve; her daughter, Lori McGuire and husband Brian; grandchildren, Joshua and Haley McGuire; nephews, Anthony Gennosa and wife Katie, and Bubby Akers; niece, Tracy Trump and husband Ricky; a special great-nephew, Tayt Trump; life companion, David Simmons; special friends, Dora O’Farrell, Carolyn Covington, and Cathy DeHart; all of her Moog family whom she dearly loved and who loved her just as much; as well as other extended family and friends.
The family would like to thank the Christiansburg Rescue Squad, Griswold Home Care and Lewis Gale Salem for their loving care of Joanie.
The family will receive friends on Sunday, September 8, 2013, from 4-6 p.m. at Horne Funeral Home. The funeral service will be held on Monday, September 9th, at 11 a.m. in the Horne Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. Bobby Lorton officiating. Interment will follow in Sunset Cemetery, Christiansburg.
Flowers are appreciated, however, anyone wishing to do so please make a donation in Joanie’s name to Christiansburg Rescue Squad, 10 East Main St., Christiansburg, VA 24073.
