John Redmond

July 14, 1947 — May 25, 2009

Redmond, John Chris, 61, of Christiansburg, VA, died peacefully in his sleep, May 25, 2009. John, known as: J.C. and “Big Red”, was a true friend and gentleman. He touched the lives of many, both friends and family, alike.

John was preceded in death by: his beloved mother, Mary Frances Redmond; father, Colonel Vaughn; brothers, John Vaughn and Mike Vaughn; sisters, Jennifer Johnson and Barbara Vaughn; aunts, Francis Ramey, Marie Redmond Price, Dorothy Redmond; and uncles, Raymond Redmond and Tommy Redmond.

John graduated in 1967 from Christiansburg Industrial institute. He served his country in the United States Navy, from which he received and Honorary Discharge and a National Defense Service Medal.

He had been residing in Christiansburg, where he was employed by Kroger. He had said that “It was the lowest paying job he’d ever had, but the one that he enjoyed the most.” He will be greatly missed by his fellow employees and the community who loved talking to him “while he was working”.

Those left to cherish his memory: uncle, Samuel James Redmond; Aunt Trinda Lee Redmond; devoted nieces, Chamisa Mary Redmond, MD, Natasha Redmond, DC, Tina M. Jones, MD, and Pamela Davis, SC; nephew, Greg Davis; brothers, special brother and friend, George Davis, OH, Joe Love, TX, Colonel Vaughn, Jr., MD, James Vaughn, VA, and a sister, Virginia Allen, MD; cousins, Clare Elizabeth Blake, Tia Green, Armand D. Blake, Roberta Green, John Nowlin and spouse, Nancy, Trig Nowlin and spouse, Sharon, and William Calloway and spouse, Mary.

A funeral service will be conducted on Saturday June 6, 2009 at 11:00 AM at Greater Mt. Zion UHC, Christiansburg, VA, officiated by Bishop Anthony M. Tucker.
