The Spirit of John E. (June) Steele,of Riner, passed from this earth in the early morning hours of October 23, 2006 at Montgomery Regional Hospital following a prolonged illness.
He was born October 12, 1922 in Montgomery County to J.B. Steele and Blanch Dobbins Steele. June was proud to be a veteran of the United States Navy having served honorably during WWII aboard the U.S.S. Salem. He will be remembered fondly for his love of the flea markets in Dublin and Cana as well as his appreciation of vintage watches.
He is survived by his wife and life partner of 60 years, Reva Semones Steele; his son and daughter-in-law, Phillip and Nancy Steele, of Riner; three grandchildren, Jim Steele, of Dublin, VA, Amber Kerns and husband, Christian, of Covington, VA, and Camille Steele, of Riner. Mr. Steele is also survived by his two much loved great grand babies, Olivia P. Kerns and Ian S. Kerns; other family members surviving are Mae Dobbins, of Radford, and Harless Duncan, of Olympia, WA; several numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
You may visit with the family from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 24 at the Horne Funeral Home in Christiansburg. A graveside service will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 25 at Roselawn Memorial Gardens with Mr. E.F. Cole officiating. In Lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial gifts be made in June?s name to Riner Volunteer Fire Dept, P.O. Box 11, Riner, VA 24149.
