John ‘Johnny’ W. Raines, Jr., 76, of Christiansburg, went to be with his Heavenly Father on Thursday, October 29, 2020.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Edna Raines; sister, Margaret Deweese; brother, Jimmy Raines; brother-in-law, Glenn Walters; nephew, Jeff Walters; great-nephew, Joey Walters; and mother-in-law, Marie Duncan.
He is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Linda Raines; daughters, Erika Raines and Pepper Bain (Adam); grandchildren, Katelyn, Jackson, Easton, and Sawyer Bain; sisters, Nancy Walters and Susan O’Mara (Richard); as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Johnny was a loving husband, father, brother, and grandfather. He was a U.S. Army Veteran and avid hunter, loving to be outdoors. He worked as a welder for 50 years and was known by many for his superior welding skills. Johnny did not know a stranger; he was always willing to help anyone in need. He loved his church and church family at Fellowship Baptist Church in Riner, where he served as a deacon and Sunday School teacher for many years. Johnny will be missed by many, but will be remembered for his humor, kindness, and love for God and others.
Visitation will be on Sunday, November 1, 2020, from 4-6 p.m. at Fellowship Baptist Church. Funeral Services will be held on Monday, November 2, 2020, at 11 a.m. at the Church, with Pastor James Bradley and Pastor Mike Coleman officiating. Interment with military honors will follow in North Fork Cemetery, Blacksburg.
