Joseph Stanley Goles (Poppy), age 79, passed away in his home with his loving wife by his side on Thursday, March 24, 2022. He was born March 20, 1943 in Harford County, Maryland.
He was preceded in death by his father John Goles, Sr, his mother Lillian Goles (Reid), his first wife Mary Goles (Malatt), his son Joseph Goles, Jr., his grandson Joshua Haley; brothers John & Milton Goles and sister Delores Neil.
He leaves behind his wife of 22 years, Deborah Goles (Mitchell); daughters: Helen Goles (Paul), Barbara Serio (John), Rose-Amber Haskins (David); sons: Barry Spradlin, Jr., Jason Spradlin (Jessica); grandchildren: Jimmy Haley, Michael Serio, Teresa (T) Serio, Kristy Zaruba (Frank), Angela Serio (Michael), Hunter Haskins, Brody Haskins, Emilyn Haskins, Eve Spradlin, Molly Spradlin, Heather Spradlin, Everett Sizemore; great-grandchildren: Caleb, Logan, Hunter, Madison, Rowan and Cleo; great-great grandchild: Baylin; siblings: Eugene Goles (Shirley), Richard Goles and Shirley Snyder (John); and many special nieces and nephews.
Joseph was an Army Veteran, proudly serving his country from 1965-1967. He also volunteered as a fire fighter at Hyde Park Fire Department in Baltimore County, Maryland. In 1993 he moved to Riner, VA and transferred from Esskay Meats in Maryland to work as a plant superintendent at Smithfield/Valleydale in Salem, VA. Later, retiring after 40 years. He loved NASCAR and farming, spending many summers with his grandsons tending to pigs, chickens and gardening. Poppy loved his family and grandchildren fiercely, as so many loved him. He will be deeply missed.
The family will celebrate his life at a private gathering, to be determined at a later date.
