Kristina Marie Meller

Kristina Marie Meller, 59, of Christiansburg, VA, passed away on February 25, 2025. To her family, she was their world. She was born on October 11, 1965, and was the daughter of the late Barbara and Henry Meller.

She is survived by three children: son Travis Van Schoyck and fiancée Sarah Hooson of NJ, daughter Beth Nester and husband John of Christiansburg, VA, and son Zachary Meller, also of Christiansburg, VA. She leaves behind two grandchildren, Abigail Grace and Kyle Grayson Nester. She was preceded in death by her brother, Jeffrey Meller.

Kris, as she was known to friends and family, worked tirelessly to achieve her lifelong dream of becoming an educator. She earned her Bachelor’s degree in English Education from Virginia Tech in 1986 and her Master’s in Education from Radford University in 2001. She began her teaching career at New River Community College in 1998 before transferring to Christiansburg High School in 2000, where she taught for 23 years. Ms. Meller's legacy lives on in the countless students she inspired and guided.

While Kris worked diligently throughout her life, she also enjoyed reading, cooking and baking, spending time with her children, spoiling and cherishing every moment with her grandchildren, and caring for her beloved dog, Sir Henry. Her favorite place in the world was the ocean where she could enjoy the sound of the waves and the fresh air. She also thoroughly enjoyed spending time with her extended family in Pennsylvania.

A visitation will be held on Saturday, March 8, 2025, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at Horne Funeral Home, 1300 N Franklin St, Christiansburg, VA 24073, for family, friends, co-workers, and former students to pay their respects.

In lieu of flowers, Kris requested that donations be made to her favorite charities and organizations: Good Samaritan Hospice NRV, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, ASPCA, and the Wounded Warrior Project.
