Larry Truman McClellan II

January 6, 1969 — March 18, 2017

Larry Truman McClellan II, 48, of Pilot, VA, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, March 18, 2017.

He was preceded in death by his father, Larry McClellan of Neibert, WV; his paternal grandparents, Arthur and Blanche Price McClellan of Neibert, WV; his maternal grandparents, Walter ‘Moss’ and Virgia Wiley Robinette of Logan, WV; and uncles, Richard McCloud, Glenn McClellan, both of WV, and Jack Cook of IN.

Larry was a loving husband, father, and papaw to his wife, Shannon Bolt McClellan; son, Zachary McClellan; grandsons, Danton and Kamdon McClellan, all of Pilot. Larry is also survived by his sons, John, Timothy, and Daniel McClellan; his mother, Stella McClellan; his sister and brother-in-law, Kristal and Robert O’Bryan; and his youngest sister and brother-in-law, Carrie and Nathan Vance. Additionally, he is survived by his mother-in-law, Cheryl Bolt; a sister-in-law, Noelle Bolt; a brother-in-law, Timothy Bolt and his family; and another brother-in-law, Jesse Bolt. He is also survived by three loving aunts, Louise McCloud, Zona McClellan Cook, and Lynda Harless, as well as a host of cousins and extended family. In addition, Larry is survived by Jonathan Slusher and Ryan Price who he brought into his home and made part of his family. Larry is also survived by Ben and TJ Wirt, both of whom he thought the world of.

Larry was born and raised in Neibert, WV (Logan County), where he graduated from Man High School and Marshall University. Larry was a Special Education Teacher in Montgomery County, VA, for 20 years, where he also coached football at Auburn High School. He loved the students at both Auburn and Montgomery Central/Rivendell, and always believed in them and worked to help them understand their true potential. In addition, Larry also served as a foster parent for the last 15 year of his life and worked specifically with troubled adolescents who he believed deserved the very best and someone to care for them. He loved teaching and working with kids, and he deeply loved the Auburn community. He also loved spending time with his best friend, his dog Nina. Larry was a mountain of a man with a heart of gold and he will be greatly missed.

A visitation will be held at Horne Funeral Home on Wednesday, March 22, 2017, from 4-7 p.m. with the Funeral Service to follow at 7 p.m. in the Chapel. A second visitation will be held on Friday, March 24, 2017, from noon to 1 p.m. and second Funeral Service to begin at 1 p.m. at Honaker Funeral Home, Logan, WV. Interment will follow in Forest Lawn Cemetery, Pecks Mill, WV.
