Estes, Lawrence S., 79, of Blacksburg, went home to be with his heavenly father on Feb. 5, 2008.
Lawrence was born in Radford on January 27, 1929 to the late Lawrence and Zella Estes. Lawrence always looked to the future and a better life. He first worked at Burlington Mills in Radford then met his loving wife, Lura, of 56 years. Lawrence then opened his own garage which he ran for over 7 years.
He then started his own excavating business of 20 plus years often times working over 20 hours a day. Lawrence always was striving to give his family a better life and often helping others in need. He always had a passion for antique cars and tractors. He enjoyed visiting with his sons at their business's and spending time in his garage restoring antique cars. Lawrence leaves behind his loving wife, Lura Estes; three sons and daughter-in-laws, Harold and Ethel Estes, Dennis Estes, Larry and Shela Estes, all of Blacksburg; one brother, Edward, Sara Estes, of Homestead, Fl; sister, Mary Quesenberry, of Radford; four grandchildren, Jennifer Gilley, Stacy Estes, Michael Estes, and Brittany Estes; three great grandchildren, Ashley Estes, Josh, and Amanda Gilley; special cousin, Molly and David Mericle, of Virginia Beach ; special nephew, Ray Linkous; and family friend, Beth Shepherd. Mr. Estes also enjoyed his wonderful brother and sister-in-laws.
The family will receive friends 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Thursday, February 7, 2008 at Horne Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held 2:00 p.m. Friday, February 8, 2008 in the Horne Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Steve Akers officiating. Interment will follow in Roselawn Memorial Gardens.
