Leonard Angle, Jr.

October 25, 1918 — July 21, 2012

Leonard C. Angle, Jr., 93, of Blacksburg and formerly of Abingdon, VA, passed away on Saturday, July 21, 2012, following a brief illness. L.C. was a native of Floyd County, the son of the late Maude and Chester Angle of Simpsons, VA. He attended Virginia Polytechnic Institute and graduated with a degree in Agricultural Engineering, Class of 1940. He was a retired Army Lt. Colonel who served in Panama and the European and Pacific theaters during World War II. He retired from Appalachian Power in Abingdon with 43 years of service.

L.C. enjoyed the study of history, especially that pertaining to the Civil War, and worked with the Historical Society of Washington County, serving as President for 12 years. He was a member of Sinking Spring Presbyterian Church and served as its Treasurer for 18 years. He chaired the Washington County Courthouse Renovation Committee and served on the Board of Directors of the Virginia Highlands Festival.

L.C. was a devoted husband and loving father. Second only to family and his many friends, the Hokies of Virginia Tech were his true love and he actively served in the VPI Alumni Association, Southwest Va. Chapter.

L.C. was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Lou Angle; his parents, his brother, Clyne Angle; and his sisters, Glenna Runion and Margaret Vest.

He is survived by his sons, Len Angle & wife Patty of Radford, VA and David Angle & wife Mary of Lebanon, VA; stepsons, Mike Pleasant of Mahomet, IL and Dr. Scott Pleasant & wife Kelly of Blacksburg, VA; stepdaughter, Patty Rushing & husband Keith of Mahomet, IL; nine grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in L.C.’s name to Virginia Tech Alumni Association, Holtzman Alumni Center (0102), 901 Prices Fork Road, Blacksburg, VA 24061 or to Virginia Tech Athletic Fund, P O Box 10307, Blacksburg, VA 24062.

A graveside memorial service will be held on KnollKreg Memorial Park in Abingdon, VA, on Saturday, August 25, 2012, at 11 am.
