Lewis Gray Hines, 87, of Snowville passed away September 24, 2022. He learned to fly airplanes at an early age on his Radford family owned airport. He retired from Southwest Virginia Tobacco Company after 47 years, along the way he drove a school bus for Pulaski County also. He was a volunteer fireman, serving as the first chief for the Snowville Fire Department. Gray was preceded in death by his wife, Carolyn Altizer Hines, parents, Edwin & Mary Ann Hines; son, Kent Hines; daughter, Sheryl Duncan; brothers, Price Hines and E.F. Hines; and sister, Marie Roop. He is survived by his sons, Donnie Hines, Jay Hines (Gail), Mark Hines (Cathy); Thomas Weeks; daughter, Amy Hines Horne (Brian); daughter, Jennifer Hines Duncan; grandchildren, Brad, Will, Amanda, Trish, Terri, Tony, Sarah, Matthew, Amber, Malorie, Rachel, Levi, Grayce, Mason, Quinn, Makenna, and Drake; numerous great-grandchildren; and great great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, September 27 from 5 to 7 p.m. at Horne Funeral Home. Funeral services will be on Wednesday, September 28 at 11 a.m. in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Charlie Henderson officiating. Interment will follow in Westview Cemetery, Radford. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Snowville Fire Department or Carilion Hospice.
