AKERS, LILLIAN KIPPS, 94, of Christiansburg crossed over into God?s Kingdom Monday, January 31, 2005 at her home in the Ellett Community.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph M. and Annie Taylor Kipps; her husband, Rev. Newton C. Akers and son, Thomas C. Akers. She was also preceded by a brother, Joe M. Kipps, and sisters, Myrtle K. Adair and Ruth K. Dove.
Mrs. Akers was a lifetime resident of Ellett and was a teaching principal at the Ellett School. She completed her teaching career as a third grade teacher at Margaret Beeks Elementary School with 35 years teaching experience. Mrs. Akers received her Virginia teaching certificate at James Madison University and earned a B. S. degree from Radford University. Always active in her church, she served as a Sunday School teacher and church treasurer at North Fork Baptist Church for over 40 years.
Survivors include a niece, Jo Ann K. Ballengee and her husband, Richard, great nephew, Richard Kipps Ballengee and his wife, Mary and their daughter Marijo Kipps Ballengee, all of Christiansburg, a great niece, Robin B. Winterfeldt and her husband, Todd of Lynchburg and their children, Chris Winterfeldt of Greensboro, NC and Lisa Winterfeldt of Ingram TX, also great nephews, John Mercer, Charlotte NC; Steve Mercer, Memphis Tenn.; and Chris Mercer of Luray, VA. Special thanks goes to her dedicated and loving caregiver, Mary Ballengee.
Funeral services will be held at North Fork Baptist Church, Thursday, Feb. 3 at 2:00 p.m. conducted by Rev. Fred Brugger and Rev. Olen Gardner with burial in Sunset Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Horne Funeral Home from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. Wednesday.
