Louise Horne

April 28, 1924 — August 10, 2007

HORNE, LOUISE SLUSHER, age 83, of Christiansburg, died Friday night, August 10, 2007 at a local health care facility.

She was the widow of Hubert Horne and daughter of the late Quinn D. and Elsie Creasey Slusher. A graduate of Radford University, she taught the first grade at Christiansburg Primary School for over twenty(20) years until her retirement.

She was a lifelong member of the Christiansburg Presbyterian Church, where she had served as president of the Women of the Church and sang in the chancel choir for many years. She served on the Board of Directors of Horne Funeral Service, Inc. from 1973 until 2000. She was a Past Worthy Matron of McDaniel Chapter #47, Order of the Eastern Star, a member of the Montgomery County Retired Teachers Association, a Charter Member of the Christiansburg Rescue Squad Ladies Auxiliary and a member of Delta Kappa Gamma.

Surviving are her son and daughter-in-law, Dick and Pat Horne of Christiansburg; a granddaughter, Dr. Heather Leveta Horne and her husband, Eric Brown, of Orlando, FL; a grandson, Brian R.H. Horne and his wife, Amy of Christiansburg; one sister, Donna S. Baber of Bedford; and four great grandchildren, Quinn, Makenna, Rachel and Grayce.

The funeral will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 15th, from the Horne Funeral Home Chapel, conducted by Dr. Donald Maken, with interment to follow in Sunset Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials be made to the Christiansburg Presbyterian Church Memorial Fund, 107 West Main Street, Christiansburg, VA 24073, the Christiansburg Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 176, Christiansburg, VA 24068 or to the Alzheimer’s Association, Central & Western Virginia, 674 Hillsdale Drive, Suite 1, Charlottesville, VA 22901. The family will receive friends from 6 until 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 14th, at the Horne Funeral Home. An Eastern Star Memorial Service will follow at 7:30 p.m. in the funeral home chapel.
