Lucenda Quesenberry Marshall of Christiansburg received the call from our Lord to come home on Saturday, August 28th, 2010 leaving her husband of 57 years, Claude W. Marshall, and daughter and son-in-law Debbie and Bob Ashcraft to cherish her memory.
“Sylvie” was born on October 24, 1927 in a house on the family home place where she grew up in the Willis area of Floyd County. She was the daughter of Kinzar and Minnie Quesenberry. Of their nine children, Sylvie is survived by a sister, Ugie Poffel and husband Joe of Baltimore, and a brother, Harley Quesenberry and wife Vesta of Woodlawn. She is also survived by nieces, nephews, and her very special friends, Roy, Brenda, and Tyler Lyons of Pilot.
The family wants to thank all of the doctors, nurses, caregivers, friends, and neighbors for their help, prayers, and support during this time. “Thank You” also to Shirley Akers, Lori Nelson, Ruth Stuart, and Teresa Witmer of Good Samaritan Hospice for their care and guidance, and to caregiver Virginia Tinsley. A special heartfelt “Thank You” to caregiver Liese Carman who has shown Sylvie so much love and kindness in caring for her.
Sylvie retired from Imperial Reading after more than 35 years of service as a sewing machine operator. She was a strong lady who courageously faced cancer twice, victoriously both times.
She loved the outdoors, tending a garden, being among her flowers, and especially going “up home” to help keep up and preserve the place of her childhood, where her heart never left. She had a special fondness for birds and animals. Kasey will miss her visits.
The family will receive friends at 9:30 AM on Tuesday, August 31st, with a service at 11:00 AM, at Horne Funeral Home in Christiansburg. Pastor Alpheus Atkins of Alleghany Baptist Church will officiate. A graveside service will immediately follow at the Quesenberry family cemetery near the home place.
Countless lives have been touched by the 82 years that Lucenda Charity Quesenberry Marshall was with us. Thank you, Lord, for this precious gift. To God be the glory! Amen.
