AKERS, LUCILLE VIRGINIA, age 81, of Christiansburg passed away, Tuesday, May 31, 2005 at her home. She was preceded in death by her parents, Mr. Clinton Akers and Mrs. Margaret Akers, and her sister, Mrs. Elizabeth Frayer.
She leaves to cherish her memory her husband, Mr. Charles Hampton Akers; her son and daughter-in-law, Daniel Hampton & Irma Akers; daughter and son-in-law, Patricia A. & Richard Byrd; grandchildren, John Charles (Chuck) Simpkins, Stacie Rodriguez and husband, Tony, Shellie Duncan and husband, Billy, Sara Akers and Andrew Akers; great grandchildren, Nikki Simpkins, Matthew, Tanner and Alex Duncan; sister, Mrs. Blanche Guenat; nieces, Susan Annas and Theresa del Toro; nephews, Scott Fraher, Peter Guenat and the late Jon Guenat.
Lucille is survived by a large extended family and many loving friends. Lucille was an outstanding person in her community and was one of the first female Postmasters in the State of Virginia. She was a devoted member of her church and enjoyed many years of singing in the choir. Most of all, she was blessed with 63 years of love and devotion from her beloved husband, ?Hamp? Akers.
The family will receive friends from 7:00 until 8:00 p.m. Thursday evening, June 2 at the Horne Funeral Home. A memorial service will be conducted at 12:00 noon, Friday, June 3rd, 2005 at the St. Paul United Methodist Church with Rev. Chuck McHose officiating. In lieu of flowers, please consider contributions to the American Cancer Society and Virginia Society for the Visually Handicapped.
