SARVER, LUCY MAE CHARLTON, age 90, of Christiansburg, retired teacher of 30 years, passed away Thursday, March 8, 2007.
She was the daughter of the late Edgar Hess and Bessie Mae Charlton. Also preceding her in death was her husband, James Evans Sarver; brother, Currin Charlton and sister, Kathleen Sisson.
She leaves to cherish her memory her daughters and sons-in-law, Betsy Chamberlain Rittenhouse, Sandra Ridinger & husband, Nelson; Jenny Wise and husband, Jim; Jane Collins & husband, Elwood; grandchildren, Charles Ralph Chamberlain, Anne Charise McCann, Teresa Marie Simmons, Leslie Dawn Mitchell, James Edgar Foster, James Curtis Pugh, Kristin Noelle Martin, Byron Johnson Collins; step grandchildren, Anne Ridinger Maroon and Jane Ellen Ridinger; sister, Ruth Charlton Cromer & husband, Archie; 26 great grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews and special friends.
Lucy Mae served her community in many ways. She was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, Christiansburg Woman?s Club, Eastern Star ? McDaniel Chapter #47, Montgomery County Retired Teachers Association, St. Paul United Methodist Choir and Joy Singers. She volunteered for more than 20 years at Montgomery Regional Hospital and also volunteered for the Montgomery Museum. The family wishes to express a special thank you to her former student and physician, Dr. J. Michael Payne and to the caring nurses and staff at Montgomery Regional Hospital.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. Saturday, March 10, at the Horne Funeral Home in Christiansburg. Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Sunday at St. Paul United Methodist Church with Dr. David Goodpasture officiating. Interment will follow in Sunset Cemetery.
