Maria S. Vass-Gal

Maria Suzanne Vass Gal, “Susie”, passed away at age 75 on October 28th, 2024 in Galax, VA. Susie was originally from Hungary, but emigrated to the US with her family at a young age. She graduated from Sacred Heart University and Virginia Tech, with Masters in Library Science and Counseling. Susie had a passion for history, and writing, and enjoyed regaling her friends with stories of her family’s escape from communism. She especially took great joy in talking about her grand nephew, Addison. Although she was faced with many challenges in her life, Susie was extremely resilient and determined. She was very compassionate, loving, with an infectious smile.

Susie was predeceased by her mother and father, Maria and Dominic Vass Gal, and is survived by her brother Alex Vass Gal. 

A memorial mass will be held at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Blacksburg, VA at 9am, Nov 22nd, 2024.
