Martha Covey

July 27, 1952 — April 17, 2013

On April 17, 2013, Martha Bishop Covey, 60, of Christiansburg, departed this earthly life for her coronation day as she was escorted into the presence of her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ by His appointed angels and to see her mansion in the glories of Heaven where she was joined by family and friends who had gone before her. At the time of her death, she was a patient at the University of Virginia Medical Center in Charlottesville, VA. Martha was born on July 27, 1952, at Radford Community Hospital to the late Vasco L. & Mary S. Bishop.

She was a member of Cambria Baptist Church where she served in the choir for many years until her health began to decline. Among her many interests and hobbies were knitting, needlepoint, weaving baskets and growing indoor plants and flowers. She and her husband, Ronnie, also enjoyed attending movies, traveling and dining out. Martha also loved being with family and friends during special occasions such as Thanksgiving, Christmas, Easter holidays and family birthdays.

Martha was preceded in death by her parents, Vasco L. & Mary S. Bishop; father & mother-in-law, Curtis & Millicent Covey; aunts, Dorothy Sensabaugh & husband Ernie of Roanoke, and Florence Tibbs & husband Bob of Vinton; uncles, Palmer P. Sweeney, Jr. & wife Izola of Christiansburg, and Clarence Bishop & wife Maxine of Christiansburg; two special cousins, Ronald Wayne Bishop of Christiansburg, and John L. Sweeney, Jr. of Virginia Beach.

Those remaining to cherish special and precious memories of her are her husband, Ronald C. Covey of the home; brother & sister-in-law, Stephen & Janet Bishop of Radford; brother-in-law & wife Donald & Bonnie Covey of Christianburg; nieces, Kimberly & husband Scott Keith of San Diego, CA, Kristen & husband Scott Lucas of Charleston, SC, Sidney & husband Scott Settles of Wilmington, NC; nephew, Blake Covey of Pulaski, VA; uncle & wife, John L. Sweeney Sr. & Kay of Virginia Beach; aunt & husband, Darlene & Kenneth Lancaster of Christiansburg; special great-niece and nephews, Kora N. Keith of San Diego, CA, Jacob L. Keith and Daniel G. Keith, also of San Diego, CA, and Liam Lucas of Charleston, SC; along with numerous cousins, extended family and friends.

The family wishes to express their deepest gratitude and appreciation to the medical team and staff at 3 North Wing of the Medical Intensive Care Unit at the University of Virginia Medical Center. Also, special thanks to 2 nurses, Hannah and Liz, for their excellent care and compassion they provided for Martha during her time there.

Visitation will be held at Horne Funeral Home on Saturday, April 20, 2013, from 6:00-8:00 p.m. The funeral service will be held on Sunday, April 21st, at 2:00 p.m. at Cambria Baptist Church in Cambria, with the Rev. Keith Crowgey officiating. Interment will follow in Sunset Cemetery.
