Mary Ellen Atlice Alley

August 5, 1939 — July 25, 2023

Mary Ellen Altice Alley, 83 passed away peacefully at home on July 25 with her loving husband of 65 years, Roger Alley, and her children by her side. She is now with her Lord.
Born on August 5, 1939, in Salem, Virginia, she was the daughter of George Henry and Mary Lou Garman Altice.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by her four children, Mary Ann Cole (James), David Alley (Terri), Stephen Alley, Amy Kuntzman (Michael); five grandchildren, April (David), Andrew (Brandy), Charlotte, Reagan and Jayden; five great-grandchildren; her brothers and sisters, Buddy Altice (Dora), Emma Smith, Alfred Altice (Penny), Donald Altice (Linda), and Rose Hosey; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She enjoyed sewing, arts and crafts, and was an excellent seamstress, handmaking “cabbage patch” style dolls. An avid bowler who participated in bowling leagues, she was often joined by her daughters and later bowled in the Coffee League with her husband. She and Roger spent many years camping and traveling across the United States. Together, they owned and operated Alley’s Country Store in Shawsville for nearly 40 years.
The family wishes to thank Gentiva Hospice Care for their support during Mary’s illness. Especially, Jennifer Vishneski and Vicki Sheppard. Special thanks are offered to Rev. Leon Alley for his presence and prayers.
The family invites friends to celebrate Mary’s life on August 12 at Sowders Chapel Baptist Church, Shawsville at 2:00 PM. In lieu of flowers please send donations to www.parkinson.org or a charity of your choice.
