Mathews Corliss Herring, 58, of Christiansburg, VA, formerly of Richmond, VA and Savannah, GA, died March 15, 2013 at his home surrounded by family and friends following a brief but brave battle with cancer.
He worked in international trade as a transportation broker and was an avid volunteer. Matt was a trivia-guru, animal lover, and active member of his church. He had a passion for food, music, film, and the Redskins. Matt will be most remembered as a good friend, loving Husband and Father, wonderful cook, and for his charitable works with the homeless.
He is preceded in death by parents, Mr. & Mrs. M.C. Herring of Pooler, GA. He is survived by wife Margaret C. Herring and daughter Meghann Garmany; two sisters; and niece, Kimberly Torek of Canton, GA.
Services held at St. Thomas Episcopal in Christiansburg on Saturday, March 23 2 pm; interment in Savannah at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please donate in memory of Matt to National Alliance to End Homelessness or St. Thomas Episcopal Church.
