Maurice Alfonzo Alexander, Sr., age 70, passed away peacefully on March 11, 2025, at the Shelia S. Strauss Hospice House in Roanoke, VA surrounded by loved ones. Maurice loved his family and was a dear friend to many.
Born in Christiansburg, VA, on February 16, 1955, Maurice lived a life filled with love and laughter. He was known for his warm smile and making everyone laugh.
Maurice attended Christiansburg High School and was a member of the graduating class of 1973. After graduation, he enlisted in the US Army. There he served as a Radar and Satellite Communications Specialist and developed a love of technology. He was stationed in El Paso, TX, where he met, and married Pamela Stephens and they were blessed with two sons. Maurice attended New River Community College (Va) and enrolled in Electromechanical Technology. Maurice’s entrepreneurial spirit led him to start his own business, Alexander Specialty, a satellite television sales & service company he owned and operated for twenty years. In 1992 Maurice married Lily Greenway and welcomed his two new daughters. In 1999 Maurice relocated his family to Arizona as co-owner of a technology start-up firm, Orbit Industrial Services. The major customer was Motorola Corporation. He sold his investment in the firm, and in 2007 Maurice relocated to North Carolina with his family to be closer to his family in Virginia. Dell Computer Corporation employed him until he retired. Maurice returned to Christiansburg to assist as a caregiver for his ailing mother in 2020. He resided there for the remainder of his life.
He was an avid golfer and loved spending time on the golf course. After returning to Christiansburg, he reunited with some of his high school friends and played golf every Thursday. He was a super sports fan of the Washington Commanders and the Virginia Tech HOKIES.
Maurice was a God-loving person. On July 14, 2024, he was baptized by his devoted nephew Marlin Reeves. During his last days in the hospital and hospice, he touched the lives of many with his faith. He witnessed for the Lord, and everyone touched by his strength during his most trying time called him a “light from God.” Maurice said, " Maybe all this is not about me, but how the Lord is using me to help others." He was at peace knowing he would be with Jesus and reunited with his family that had gone before him.
