Melba Jean Howard Kozar, 81, of Bassett, formerly of Riner, Virginia, fell asleep peacefully at home on January 11, 2014. She was born June 22, 1932.
Preceded in death by her husband, Steve (Pops) Kozar; her parents, Charlie Howard and Nellie Wilson Howard. Sisters: Stella Kozar, Shirley Reed, Sandra Gibson, and Maxine Miller. Brothers: Charlie Howard and Early Howard.
She is survived by two sisters; Lucy Hale and Annie Caldwell. Also surviving 2 children, 7 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. Her Son, Steve Wayne Kozar, wife D.J. “Dorothy”, his children: Candice Bertemes, Sara Graham and Steven Kozar. Melba’s daughter, Loretta Kozar Dobbins and her children; Weston Dobbins, Almeta K. May, Philip Ray Dobbins, and Jeanie Addie.
Special thank you to her dear friends William and Teresa Lucado, who cared for her and shared life in their home. Also, Phyllis Woods, her “partner in crime” who went with Melba on bluegrass music excursions.
The family will receive friends from 1-3 p.m. on Saturday, January 18, 2014, at Horne Funeral Home. The funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. in the Chapel, with Dorothy Kozar officiating. Interment will follow in Sunset Cemetery, Christiansburg.
