Melissa Snider Simmers, 57, of Pilot, VA, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Sunday, April 27, 2014, after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer.
She is survived by her husband of 39 years, Gary ‘Steve’ Simmers. She is also survived by her one and only daughter, Amanda Mechelle´ Simmers; her mother, Lois F. Snider of Christiansburg; sisters, Yvonne S. Laffoon and Shelia B. Bond both of Christiansburg; niece, A. Renee´ Stanley and her husband Trevor; nephew, Benjamin I. Ballard and his wife Mallory, and their son and her great-nephew, Isaiah Coles Ballard; step-daughter, Alexis Hancock. She was preceded in death by her father, L. G. Snider, Jr.; paternal grandmother, Mamie S. Black; and maternal grandmother, Thelma F. Nelson.
Melissa will be sorely missed by all who knew her, but we are thankful for the gift of her life on the earth. One day we will have a sweet reunion day in Heaven.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, April 30, 2014, from 5-8 p.m. at Horne Funeral Home. The funeral service will be held on Thursday, May 1, 2014, at 11 a.m. in the Horne Funeral Home Chapel, with Pastor Kenneth Wells officiating. Interment will follow in Northfork Cemetery.
