Michael Eugene Bourne, 55, of Christiansburg, Va., peacefully left his family and friends on January 10, 2011.
He was greeted by his father, Robert E. Bourne; his grandparents; and his favorite cousin, Sue Lester.
Those who cherish his memories are his soul-mate, best friend, and wife, Dianne M. Bourne; his son, Kristopher Shelor-Bourne, Pulaski; his mother, Norma C. Bourne, Dublin; his brother Robbie and sister-in-law, Tina Bourne of Fairlawn and his nephews, Joshua and Jacob Bourne; his stepson and daughter-in-law, Jeff and Vicki Wall; his stepdaughter and son-in-law, Kristi and Mike Snyder; his grandchildren, A1C Zachary Wall, Ryan and Hunter Wall, Justin and Julianne Snyder; his uncle, James E. Cyphers and his family; his godchildren, Becky Bishop and Amy Bishop Berry; many cousins extended family members.
His passion was scuba diving where he and Dianne owned New River Valley Scuba Center and taught for 20 years. Together, they introduced more than 1,000 people to the amazing underwater world and traveled to some of the most beautiful places on earth. He was an expert diver, master instructor for four international scuba diving training agencies and he found the most excitement in the challenges and adventures of cave diving.
Most recently, Mike was employed by Airgas MidAmerica in Christiansburg.
There will be a celebration of his life from 5 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, January 12, 2012, at Horne Funeral Home, 1300 N. Franklin St. Christiansburg. A Memorial Service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, January 13, 2012, at Mountain View United Methodist Church. The family requests that dress attire is casual.
To honor Mike, he has asked that donations be made to the roofing project at Mountain View United Methodist Church, 6648 Wilderness Rd., Dublin, VA 24084.
