RICHARDSON, Nancy Lee, 96 of Riner, VA, died peacefully at her home surrounded by family members on Saturday, July 8, 2006.
She was born in Riner on January 25, 1910 to the late Payton Thomas and Pearl Cromer Richardson. Nancy Lee loved and was loved by her family and community where she resided for her entire life.
Nancy Lee began losing her eye sight at age 11 and was legally blind by the age of 19. In 1959, 1961, 1973 and 1984, she had cornea transplants and was able to see and work for 61/2 years. She was so grateful for her vision and would encourage individuals to be organ donors.
Nancy Lee was an avid reader and loved music. She loved her church, Auburn United Methodist Church, and attended there all her life, joining the church at age 13.
Nancy Lee was preceded in death by her parents, and two brothers; Oakley John Richardson; and James Thomas Richardson. She is survived by three nieces and three nephews; Judy R. Clingenpeel and her husband Glenn, of Boones Mill, VA Kitty Clouse, Summerville, South Carolina, and Janet R. Shelburne and her husband Richard, Christiansburg, VA, Billy Gene Richardson and wife Mary Jane of Riner, VA O.J. Richardson and wife Glennis, of Dublin, VA, and Larry E. Richardson and wife Margaret, Centerville, Indiana. Seventeen great nieces and nephews; Linda Wilson, Sandra Brunner, Kathy Bunn and Marsha Pack all of Dublin, VA, Lance Richardson, Florida, Rhonda Rogers, Indiana, Patrick Clingenpeel, Boones Mill, VA, Veronica Coker, South Carolina, Pam Richardson, Radford, VA, and Suzanne Shelburne, Christiansburg, VA and seventeen great great nieces and nephews and four great great great nieces and nephews and special friends Kathleen Roop, Josephine Scaggs and Virginia Deal Lawrence.
Friends may call anytime after 12 noon on Monday, July 10 at the Horne Funeral Home where the family will receive friends from 4 ? 8 p.m. Monday evening. The funeral service will be held at The Auburn United Methodist Church with Pastor Kathy Hale officiating. A private interment will follow in the Richardson Family Cemetery, Riner, VA.
In lieu of flowers it was Nancy Lee?s request that contributions be made to the Auburn United Methodist Church building fund, C/O Kathy Smith, 2125 Fairview Church Rd., Riner, VA 24141.
