Nathaniel Whitman Pierce, 85, of Warm Hearth Village in Blacksburg, VA, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, August 28, 2012, at the Virginia Veterans’ Care Center in Salem, VA.
He was predeceased by his beloved wife of 57 years, Bernice Evelyn; his brothers, Robert and George; his sister, Priscilla Pascoe; his grandson, Nathaniel Whitman, III; and his parents, Nathaniel Whitman & Mildred Clarkson Pierce.
He is survived by his children, Kathleen Anne & husband Kenneth Lesnieski of Powhatan, VA, Deborah Anne Finan of St. Cloud, FL, Nathaniel Whitman Pierce, Jr. of Netcong, NJ, Patricia Anne & husband George Owen of Hopatcong, NJ and Robert Kevin & wife JoAnn Pierce of Christiansburg, VA; grandchildren, Nicholas Wayne Finan of St. Cloud, FL, Charlene Hobbs of Cornelius, NC, Kimberly Ann Owen of Hopatcong, NJ and Marissa Janelle Pierce of Christiansburg, VA. He is also survived by his great-grandson, Bradley Wayne Finan of St. Cloud, FL and numerous nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at the Horne Funeral Home Chapel on Tuesday, September 4, 2012, at 11 am, with Chaplain Marvin Barbre officiating, followed by a military burial at the SW Virginia Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Dublin, VA. He served his country honorably during World War II.
In lieu of flowers the family request donations be made to the Virginia Veterans’ Care Home, 4550 Shenandoah Avenue, Roanoke, VA 24017.
