Norvel Martin

January 19, 1927 — July 26, 2013

Norvel Eugene Martin went to be with the Lord on July 26th, 2013, at the age of 86. Eugene was born on January 19, 1927, in Shawsville, Virginia, the son of the late Norvel Francis Martin and Bertha Williams Martin.

Eugene is preceded in death by his only love, Nancy Graham Martin; Brother: Ambrose Martin and Sister-In-Law: Addie Martin.

Eugene was a member of the Riverview Holiness Church and served as a Deacon for many years. He loved the Lord and loved visiting surrounding churches for worship and singing services as well.

During his employment at Imperial Reading Corporation, Eugene got the nick name “Shortie” from his fellow workers. After retirement you could frequently find “Shortie”, a social butterfly, at Wades Supermarket and Wal-Mart fellowshipping with his many friends.

The Lord blessed him with the ability to create amazing things with his hands. He enjoyed making birdhouses, tables, and various other furniture pieces. He loved gardening--especially working with tomatoes and grapes. And he had a passion for drawing horses and other animals.

Eugene will be fondly remembered for his most, appropriate prayers, his knowledge of the Bible, quick humor, and his love for joking and socializing with family and friends.

He is survived by loving relatives who will cherish his memory including Daughters: Barbara Martin-Evans, and Son-In-Law, Bob Evans, Sheree Martin Barnett and Son-In-Law, James Barnett and Priscilla Martin; a Sister: Hazel Yopp Cornet; Grandchildren: Regina Rae Vest, Patrick Neil Dotey and wife Jessica Leigh Dotey, Joshua Martin and Great-Granddaughter: Kaitlyn Dotey. Including nieces, nephews, and extended family and friends.

The Family will receive friends on Monday, July 29, 2013, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Horne Funeral Home. Relatives and Friends are invited to attend the Funeral Service to be held on Tuesday, July 30, 2013, at 2 p.m. in the Horne Funeral Home Chapel, with the Rev. James E. Walker officiating.

Interment will follow in Roselawn Memorial Gardens, Christiansburg, Virginia. In lieu of flowers, family encourages donation(s) be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
