Opal Matherly Jones, 85 of Christiansburg completed her beautiful Earthly journey and began her life in Heaven on June 5, 2013. Opal was a treasured family Matriarch, a magnificent mother, steadfast wife and a cherished friend to so many.
She was a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church for more than 50 years and attended Lake Baldwin Church in Orlando Florida during her winter stays.
Opal is survived by her sons Garry and Dennis and their life partners Isis Jones and Stephen Mullis. Her life was enriched by her cherished extended family that included nieces, nephews, in-laws and friends she called family including Dorothy Meredith and Molly Ayers Tilley.
Opal's impact on the world around us will be celebrated on June 8th at 1:00 p.m. at St. Paul United Methodist Church, 220 W. Main St. Christiansburg, with Rev. Michael Copeland, Rev. Doug Kanney, Rev. Neal Turner, and Rev. Mike Tilley officiating. Interment will follow in Sunset Cemetery, Christiansburg. The family will receive friends from 11:30 a.m. until time of service.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to Medi Hospice, 80 College St., Christiansburg, VA 24073, and/or The Christiansburg Rescue Squad, 10 East Main St., Christiansburg, VA 24073.
