Phyllis Jannette Bayne, 77, of Christiansburg, passed away on Thursday, February 19, 2015, at her home. She was the wife of James Thomas Bayne, Jr.
Born on January 14, 1938, in Roanoke, VA, she was the daughter of the late Charles William Witt and Genevieve Cregger Witt. She was a graduate of Andrew Lewis High School and attended Atlanta Christian College where she studied vocal performance. She retired from Belk Company in 2004. She was a member of Belmont Christian Church. During her husband’s 52 years of ministry (28 years with the Belmont Church), she served as his partner in ministry as children’s teacher, choir director, vocalist and worship leader. She will be fondly remembered for her friendly smile, her beautiful voice and the grace of her vocal performance.
In addition to her husband Jim, she is survived by two daughters, Angela B. Baker and husband, Mike, Christina B. Gregg and husband, John; one son, James Kent Bayne and wife, Lori; mother, Genevieve C. Witt; two sisters, Sylvia W. Bailey and husband, Perry, Cynthia W. Calaway and husband, Mike; six grandchildren, Amanda Ross and husband, Nick, Whitney Baker, Jessica Bayne, Josh Bayne, Chris Bayne, and Rohan Gregg.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, February 21, 2015, from 6-8 p.m. at Horne Funeral Home. A Celebration Service will be held on Sunday, February 22, 2015, at 3 p.m. at Belmont Christian Church, with Mr. James Beaver Terry, Mr. Jerry Dowdy, and Mr. Brandon Craig officiating. Interment will be private.
