Ray Lawrence Vines, Sr.

Ray Lawrence Vines, Sr., 82, of Christiansburg, VA, passed away July 24th, 2016. He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Shirley Jean Roe Vines; his parents, Raymond Chester and Edna Jerrnigan Vines; and his sister, Sandra Lister.

Ray is survived by his children, Joni Vines-Dadras and Jalal, Toni Vines- Jones and Douglas, Ray Lawrence ‘Larry’ Vines Jr. and Jamie, Sarge and Jennifer Vines; grandchildren, Juliet Dadras, Jamie Dadras-Alderman and Austin, Jasmine Dadras, Ashley Jones and Hillary, Austin Jones and Chelsey, Alex Vines, Joshua Hanson, Jesseca Vines-Cagle and Joshua, Jordan Vines and Robie Vines; great-grandchildren, Jaden Dadras, Xander Vines, Madelyn Alderman, Lillian Alderman, Ella Hanson, Gracelyn Hanson; and his sister, Carolyn Vines-Browder.

Dad had a generous nature and a kind heart. He loved his ‘Shirley’ and the two were inseparable for 62 years.

Dad was a unique personality with a zest for life, who never met a stranger. He proudly served in the Navy as a photographer. He was an entrepreneur, a highly intelligent avid reader who loved Jeopardy and cross word puzzles. Other hobbies included deep sea fishing and piloting his plane. He was a huge Hokie fan.

Those of us who loved him are comforted to know that he and Mom are together again forever.

The family would like to thank the staff at Heritage Hall for taking great care of him in the time of need.

The Memorial Service will be held at Horne Funeral Home in Christiansburg, Virginia at 2 p.m. on Saturday, July 30th, 2016.
