Ray Hesse, 77, of Christiansburg, VA formerly of Woodhaven, NY, passed away peacefully Wednesday, January 4, 2012.
He is survived by his wife, Mildred, of 46 years; sons Steven and Paul; six week old granddaughter Katherine (Katie), daughter of Steven and Kristen of Littleton, MA; brother Henry Hesse, Sr.; nephew Henry and wife Irene; niece Kathy and husband Paul Oswald; cousin Robert and wife Gail and their three sons.
Ray was born August 9, 1934 to parents Henry (Sr) and Alma Hesse, Ray lived in Brooklyn, NY, and then raised his family in Woodhaven, NY until retiring to Christiansburg, VA.
Ray was a veteran, who met his wife while working in Manhattan before serving the Queens community as a letter carrier for 34 years. He was dedicated and devoted to his family, an avid fan of professional sports, bowling, classic movies and serials, novels, and trivia.
He enjoyed his retirement with new friends and old, and cherished his new role as grandfather to Katie, whom he adored.
The family will receive friends at Horne Funeral Home on Saturday, January 7, 2012, from 2-5, 6-8 pm. The funeral service will be held on Sunday, January 8, 2012, at 3 pm at the Our Savior Lutheran Church, Christiansburg, with Rev. Fred Hodges officiating. Interment will follow in Roselawn Memorial Gardens, Christiansburg.
