Raymond Franklin Obenshain, Christiansburg, died on November 25 at age 89. He was predeceased by his wife of 61 years, Kathryn 'Kitty' Garland Obenshain; his parents Wallace Blanton Obenshain and Armittie Jane (May) Obenshain, VA; his brothers Lawrence Lee Obenshain, FL and Wallace Garner Obenshain, MD; his sisters Alice Virginia (Obenshain) Brown, VA and Janice May (Obenshain) Oliver, VA . He is survived by his children Karen R. Obenshain, VA and Richard B. Obenshain, AZ; his grandaughters Maura Kay Jennison-Obenshain, AZ and Janna Ruth (Obenshain) Jennison Jones, AZ; his great-grandchildren Gabriel Raymond Jennison-Jones, Sophia Kay Jennison-Jones, Isabela Teresa Obenshain De La Cruz and Maximo Benjamin Obenshain De La Cruz; his sister Peggy Joyce (Obenshain) Rowe, GA; his godchild Kathryn 'Kate' (Payne) Cox, VA; numerous well-loved in-laws, nieces and nephews, and a host of long-time friends. Ray was a member of the Virginia Tech Cadet Corps and graduated with a degree in electrical engineering in 1955. He retired from R.A.A.P/Hercules/Orbital ATK in Radford after 30-plus years. He was a long-time member of Christiansburg Presbyterian Church, singing in the choir and serving as Treasurer, Deacon and Elder. Ray was an avid reader, loved music, antiques and cats. He enjoyed tinkering with old cars and woodworking. Ray had a great sense of humor and always kept of positive outlook on life. Our family sends a big thank you to everyone at Heritage Hall Blacksburg who worked with and cared for Ray for the past 4 years. A celebration of life service will be held when it is safe for family and friends to gather.
