Retha Viola Cooper

Retha Viola Cooper, 85, of Christiansburg, VA passed away peacefully on April 16th 2025, in Roanoke, VA.

She was born on April 2nd , 1940 in Crab Orchard, WV, to the late Riley Roscoe Cross Srand Rachel York Cross.

She is survived by her loving and devoted son, Randy Cooper, daughter-in-law, Patricia Cooper, grandchildren: Kristen Cooper and friend Veronica Garcia, Kimberly and Jonathan Ashwell and Joshua and Nicole Cooper, Great-Grandchildren: Luna Cooper, Alfie Ashwell, and Taran Cooper, sister, Celesta Faye Cooper, friend, Laura Bentley and many nieces and nephews she loved.

She is preceded in death by her son, Ralph Franklin “Frank” Cooper II, parents, Riley Roscoe Cross Sr. and Rachel York Cross, 7 brothers: Leoda, Odelless “OD”, D. Clydeth, Cornelius, Nicodemus, Cleophas “Bill” and Riley Cross Jr, and 3 sisters: Elvira “Sissy” Furnari, Arlevia Cross and Delta Cross.

She enjoyed spending time with her son, with whom she lived, and loved visiting her grandchildren and great grandchildren often. She would often travel with her sister to visit other family in West Virginia and loved going with her siblings on their annual trip to Smokey Junction, TN to honor her family for Decoration Day. She was very kind, thoughtful and very family-oriented, and loved looking at family photos and researching family history. She enjoyed listening to bluegrass and gospel music, and she loved her flowers as she could bring the dryest of plants back to life.

Visitation will be on Saturday, April 19 th , 2025 at 10am at Horne Funeral Home in Christiansburg, Va. Graveside services will be held on Saturday, April 19 th , 2025 at 11am at Roselawn Memorial Gardens.

We will remember all the wonderful times we shared with you. We love you and will miss you dearly. Until we see you again.
