Richard 'Dickie' Carper Shelburne

March 22, 1942 — January 23, 2023

Richard (Dickie) Carper Shelburne died peacefully at his home on January 23, 2023. He was born in a house on the family farm on March 22, 1942, and lived in the Childress area of Montgomery County all his life. He was proud to be a farmer and loved the land and his livestock. He often said he preferred four-legged animals to people. Life was good for him each day he could farm.
After graduating from Auburn High School in 1960, he attended the Missouri School of Auctioneering. He was an auctioneer with McNeil Real Estate for almost fifty years. He also did the Wednesday night cattle auctions at the Pulaski Livestock Market for many, many years.
He is preceded in death by his parents Horace Harvey and Nelle Carper Shelburne. He is survived by his caring and devoted wife of fifty-seven years, Janet, and his loving daughter, Suzanne, her husband Giovanni Dasara and stepdaughter, Julia. Other survivors include sister-law-Judy Clingenpeel and her family of Boones Mill, Virginia and numerous cousins including one very special cousin, Patsy McCann of Middleburg, Virginia. To Janet’s family he was their beloved “Uncle D.” He is survived by Janet’s nieces: Linda Wilson, Sandra Brunner, Kathy Bunn, and Marsha Pack and their families. His great, great niece, Emily Grace Bunn, was lovingly known as “my girl.”
Janet and Suzanne would like to thank his close friends Mike Brisco and Richard Foster for their faithful visits every Sunday. We also want to recognize John Helton for his work with Dickie on the farm for over a decade. Dickie loved dogs and had faithful canine companions and special granddogs. He would be pleased if donations were made to local animal shelters or humane societies. Visitation and a celebration of life will take place in the spring.
