Robert Miller

d. April 2, 2020

Robert Miller, 73, formerly of Titusville, Fl., was embraced by his Savior on April 2, 2020. Bob, as he was known by family and friends, took with him the love and respect of many who knew him. Bob was the beloved son of Joseph and Ethel Miller of Baltimore, Maryland; the brother of Joe, Richard (Jean), and Tom (Jeanette) Miller; the father of Judy, Bob (Millicent) and Jaime (Brad); the proud grandfather of Ben, Joe, Chad, and Malinda; and uncle to several nieces and nephews. Bob, who enjoyed companionship in his life, was also loved and encouraged by faithful and treasured friends Michele, Marty, Shane, and Sarah, whom he considered family.

As an United Steel Workers union representative, Bob dedicated himself to the negotiations for safer working conditions and improved contracts for his fellow Kaiser Aluminum employees. After early retirement, Bob moved to Florida to follow his life long pursuit of surf and sand, and to continue gaining experience as a skilled tactician and navigator in the world of sailing. Bob's ability as a sailing tactician was well respected in the race community which gave him the opportunity to compete in a multitude of world wide regattas, which was truly his passion. Bob served as navigator during sailing expeditions to the Antilles and once to the coast of Africa.

While loving and living his life in Titusville, Florida, Bob enjoyed surfing, windsurfing, kayaking with the dolphins and giving in to the never ending nudges of manatees who wanted belly brushes when Bob scrubbed the underside of boats in the water. Bob was not only a believer in having fun, self-care and pursuing personal dreams, but he was also a dedicated advocate for equality and human rights. Bob lived his life tenaciously campaigning for social change, specifically fair and equal access to affordable health care and education. Bob was committed to the efforts of electing lawmakers who would protect the elderly and less advantaged by upholding and not defunding Medicare, Social Security, and public education.

To honor Bob, it is asked that instead of sending flowers, his family and friends continue to support his efforts in protecting wildlife and the environment through the reduction of single use plastic and plastic bags. Bob, who was a captivating story teller, shared that a good memorial service would include the people who knew him, sharing treasured memories that tell of his never ending love and passion for life.

Bob Miller, Dad and Be-Bop, you will be missed.
