Roger Allen Howell, 59, of Shawsville, passed away January 18, 2022.
Roger was a hardworking man who dedicated 15+ years working for the Town of Christiansburg. Prior to that he worked for numerous local furniture factories. When he wasn’t working he was either tending to the family hobby farm, cleaning his guns, or he could be found sitting in a corner somewhere and all you would hear is the scrape scrape of him sharpening his knife collection with a John Wayne movie playing in the background. He was a quiet man of very few words, but he had mastered the manly grunt with an occasional giggle. He was a true family man, very loving and patient, but never afraid to deliver brutal honesty when it needed to be heard. We couldn’t have asked for a better Son, Brother, Husband, Father, and Poppy.
Roger was preceded in death by his father, Frank R. Howell. He is survived by his wife, Robin Rose Howell; children, Joshua Willis (Tori), Kelsey Clark (Andrew), Curtis Howell (Olivia); grandchildren, Makayla, Cadence, Wyatt, Phoebe, Annabelle, Arayna, Gracie; mother, Barbara Jean Howell; siblings, Dorraine Howell Phillips (Richard), Gary Howell (Nancy); as well as numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Visitation will be Sunday, January 23, 2022, from 6-8 p.m. at Horne Funeral Home. Funeral Services are Monday, January 24, 2022, at 11 a.m. in the Horne Funeral Home Chapel, with Pastor Mike Johnston officiating. Interment will follow in Sunset Cemetery, Christiansburg.
The family would like to thank the Blacksburg Volunteer Rescue Squad, the Montgomery County Sheriff's Office, and the responding officers.
