Roger W. Yates

Roger W. “Rowdy” Yates, 74 of Tazewell, VA, passed away suddenly at his home on Wednesday, December 23, 2020 to join his beloved wife, Darlene Yates and his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

He was born the son of the late Maurice and Louise Yates of Montgomery County, VA on November 15, 1946. Roger is survived by his two daughters, Katherine Kimberly Yates and Sherry Yates and her husband, Shane of Tazewell, VA. Also surviving are four grandchildren, Kole, Raven, Corey and Autumn; his sister, Clara Dove of Henrico, VA; brother and sister-in-law, Howard and Pat Yates of Pilot, VA. Other survivors include brother-in-law, Arthur and Debbie Bailey of Shawsville, VA and brother and sister-in-law, Roy and Sandra Sorrell of Carrollton, VA and many loved cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Roger retired from UPS in 2009. He was a Vietnam veteran. Rowdy was loved by so many people. He will be remembered for the love he had for the Lord and his dedication to his family. He was a hardworking man, loving father and husband. His work on earth is over. His legacy and hope would be that we who remain would accept and hold the Lord in our hearts, loving and serving one another.

A memorial service will be held at Horne Funeral Home in Christiansburg on January 2, 2021 at 11:00am. Flowers or donations can be sent in care of Horne Funeral Service for Roger’s surviving daughters.
